The type of silicon in beer, called orthosilicic acid, has a 50 percent bioavailability, meaning that much is available for use in the body. Some foods, like bananas are rich in silicon but only 5 percent is bioavailable. This soluble form of silica found in beer could be important for the growth and development of bone and connective tissue, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Past research has suggested that moderate beer consumption may help fight osteoporosis, a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue.

Another past study involving nearly 1,700 women reported last year in the journal Nutrition showed participants who were light to moderate beer drinkers had much better bone density than non-drinkers. The researchers suggested the beer's plant hormones, not the alcohol, could be responsible for the bone boost.

Black Gold = Cash Money

Cash Money Records co-founders, Birdman and Ronald "Slim" Williams are trying their hands in another business venture outside the music world. They're now expanding their portfolios into the oil business.

The New Orleans-bred brothers have launched an independent oil and gas company called Bronald Oil & Gas.

Via the company's mission station on their website, BronaldOil.com, they say their initial focus is the "exploration, production and development of oil and gas reserves from conventional and unconventional formations."

Bronald, a combination of the brother's first names, say they have begun the process of acquiring leases "covering areas with historical production and the opportunity for re-entry drilling as well as new drilling opportunities."

Their current target locations include Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Florida, as well as Central America.

Although this is their first foray into the oil business, they make is clear that one of their main concerns during oil exploration is "preserving the environment."

They are also seeking investors.

"We welcome investors to join us in the exciting business of oil exploration," the website read.

Birdman even has a tattoo in celebration of the new venture -- an oil rig embedded with the words "Bronald". So, it looks like he's serious about it.
